je budala .... Potpisujem.... Sramota ....

Silvio Berlusconi has done it again. While talking about the victims of the Abruzzo earthquake, he made the following statement:
"Of course, their current lodgings are a bit temporary. but they should see it like a weekend of camping".

so-called scientist predicted this quake

 From Times OnlineApril 6, 2009

Scientist says authorities ignored Italian earthquake warnings
(Claudio Lattanzio/EPA)
Giampaolo Giuliani claims he predicted the earthquake but was ignored

Lucy Bannerman, Rome
An Italian scientist who claims to have predicted a major earthquake around L'Aquila weeks before the town was reduced to rubble today accused public health chiefs of ignoring his warnings.

Giampaolo Giuliani said that he had been reported to the police for "spreading panic" among the population after he forecast that a major tremor was on its way.

Experts said that there was "no scientific basis" for the predictions made by Mr Guiliani, who based hsi predictions on underground levels of the gas radon, which he has been monitoring for the past several years. He also believes that seismic activity can be linked to phases of the moon, and the earth's alignment to Venus.

"I want apologies from Boschi (Enzo Boschi, president of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology,) and Bertolaso (Guido Bertolaso, the civil protection chief), on behalf of all those who died today," he said. "My prediction unfortunately proved correct."
Nothing to see but devastation in L'Aquila after earthquake
Video: devastating earthquake hits
Italian media reported that vans with loudspeakers had been driven around the town a month ago telling locals to evacuate their houses following Mr Giuliani's warning, to the alleged disapproval of the mayor of L'Aquila, Massimo Cialente. The scientist was later accused of scaremongering and forced to remove his finding from the internet.

Seismic activity was said to have increased over the past two months. The first tremors in the region were felt in mid-January and continued at regular intervals, creating mounting alarm in the medieval city, about 100 km north-east of Rome.

On March 31st, a meeting was held by the national Civil Protection agency, the governmental organisation which is charged with assessing the risk of natural disasters, to reassure local people.

At the time, the agency issued a statement, saying: "The tremors being felt by the population are part of a typical sequence ... (which is) absolutely normal in a seismic area like the one around L'Aquila".

"It is useful to underline that it is not in any way possible to predict an earthquake," it said, adding that the agency saw no reason for alarm but was nonetheless effecting "continuous monitoring and attention".

As questions mounted today about the authorities' alleged failure to safeguard the population ahead of the quake, the head of the National Geophysics Institute dismissed Mr Giuliani's predictions

"Every time there is an earthquake there are people who claim to have predicted it," said Mr Boschi. "As far as I know nobody predicted this earthquake with precision. It is not possible to predict earthquakes."

Mr Boschi added that the real problem for Italy was a long-standing failure to take proper precautions despite a history of tragic quakes.

"We have earthquakes but then we forget and do nothing. It's not in our culture to take precautions or build in an appropriate way in areas where there could be strong earthquakes," he said.

As condolences poured in from around the world, including from the Pope and from President Obama, Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister, cancelled a visit to Russia and declared a state of emergency, freeing up federal funds to deal with the disaster.

At a press conference Mr Berlusconi appeared defensive when asked whether the Government propely safeguarded the public in the light of Mr Guiliani's warning, saying that now was the time to concentrate on relief efforts and “we can discuss afterwards about the predictability of earthquakes”.

Have your say

He is probably not a scientist, however is a researcher and technician working for the National Institute of Nuclear Physics, based on the Gran Sasso site, L'Aquila. I suppose that in cases where safety of so many people is at risk, the better thing we can do is to give him the benefit of doubt...don't you agree?

..i invite you to look it up on you tube

history shows some of the greatest scientific discoveries have been found by accident and by many types of 'researcher'..

in the 19th century they were 'scientists' - in the 21st they have become technologists - often dogmatic and colluded..

Max, London, UK

He's not a scientist, he's just a heterodox researcher!
His prevision was totally wrong about the place of the earthquake
