US VERSUS JOHN LENNON

US VERSUSUS VERSUSWho Killed John Lennon?

Some random lunatic with a personal name and an infamous fame? Or all those who stayed silent, the majority?
The film "US Versus John Lennon ( The War is Over, If You Want It)," by David Leaf and John Sheinfeld is not about a Beatle megastar who became an activist, but about a peacenik who was a famous musician.
No worries here about Yoko Ono’s role in the life and death of the all-male cult band... Only Yoko in bed with the exotic enemy, in "total communication" ( Lennon: "I always wanted to fall in love with an artist").
"They are all insane," says John, of the military, of politicians all over the world. Then we see the 1968 riots in Chicago.
"Patriotism is the last refuge for scoundrels," for nationalism and racism. In Serbia we toppled Milosevic, only to get today's religio-fascists waving three fingers to an orthodox God : Serbia, Serbia, Serbia. The same and even more so goes for born-again second-generation American presidents.
So many nervous shots of the Beatle's face, a pop musician who once claimed without offense that his band was bigger than Jesus. Preferring people-power to the shibboleths of church and state, Lennon was persecuted by simple-minded immigration police, by straight music critics, by President Nixon, by wire-tapes and surveillance. He became paranoid. And then everybody found out the conspiracy against him was true. As with Gandhi, bigger than Lennon was, he ended with a bullet from a devotee.
What are the true changes since the sixties/seventies in this big and insane world? Where they had flower power, we have suicide bombers. War between nation-states, Cold Wars between vast economies, have become personal bomber-belt clashes of blind faith.WAR IS OVERWAR IS OVER
Lennon's neutopialand, without territories, with no borders but only people (with himself and Yoko the first two citizens) has become a dystopia for millions of displaced, stateless people without names or graves all over the world.
The globalization of evil, of the military, of oil as blood, of airport checks` , of state crime with torture camps, and the new computerized global spying and wiretapping.... The globalization of silence and compliance has made our world a prisoner-of-war camp without borders. But John Lennon is not confined here with us; he escaped the new barbed-wire through his premature death.
